An annual tenancy registration comes into effect from the 4th April 2022, the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) has confirmed. Landlords must now register their tenancy every year, within one month of when that tenancy began.

This change in the rental sector will apply to both new and existing tenancies, and a transition period remain in place (whereby late fees will not be charged) until the 3rd of August 2022.

This new requirement to register tenancies for the private rental and social housing sector on a yearly basis results in a new lower registration fee, as well as a number of other changes including an additional late fee for every month or part thereof that registration is late.
